The Wikipedia definition for depression reads “Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity or apathy that can affect a person’s thoughts, behaviour, feelings and sense of well-being.” Yes, that’s right. But, that’s just a mechanical way to define it. It is not just a state of mind. Because, the depressed person is fighting a bigger battle within him.
He is in conflict with himself to bring positivity in his life, everyday. He fights everyday to smile. He fights everyday to be normal and buries the sadness deep down. An unrecognisable state of mind that drains his physical and mental energy completely is depression. There may be triggers, but we can’t see them. Sometimes it just happens.
How to help a person in Depression?
The person suffering needs a supportive hand to pull them out of this bottomless pit. Depression is not recognisable. You can only understand this illness by asking the person time and again if he/she is fine. Listen out to them. Hug them tight and don’t let them leave unless you are sure that they are fine.

It might be dark and rainy for two weeks or two months in a row. But, it will be sunny one day. It will pass. Just hold up for a while!
